Waipatiki lagoon swimming warning lifted
Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr Richard Hoskins today lifted an earlier warning advising members of the public not to swim in the Waipatiki Lagoon.
Dr Hoskins says re-sampling by the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has shown much lower levels of bacteria. “The levels are now within the recommendations of the national Recreational Water Guidelines”.
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will continue monitoring this waterway through summer.
The Hastings District Council surveyed the Lagoon and identified that the high level of contamination may have been due to local bird and/ or agricultural activities.
