Lake Tutira Swimming Warning Lifted

10 January 2008

LAKE TUTIRA SWIMMING WARNING LIFTED

Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr Caroline McElnay today lifted a warning made on 9 January 2008 advising members of the public not to swim in

* Lake Tutira.

Dr McElnay says re-sampling by the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has shown much lower levels of bacteria. “The levels are now within the recommendations of the national Recreational Water Guidelines”.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will continue monitoring this waterway through summer.

The Hastings District Council surveyed Lake Tutira and identified that the high level of contamination from earlier in the week may have been due to rainfall or local bird and/ or agricultural activities.
