Lake Rotoiti & Kaituna River Health Warning Lifted
Lake Rotoiti & Kaituna River Health Warning Lifted
The health warning issued on 13 December 2007 for Lake Rotoiti and Kaituna River has been lifted by the Medical Officer of Health.
Weekly monitoring of the Lake and River has confirmed that the algal bloom which affected the eastern area of Lake Rotoiti and Kaituna River has fallen back to safe levels.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr Jim Miller says that "this is good news for recreational users of the area before the holidays, but this Lake has had a number of blooms over the years so users should remain cautious. If water looks discoloured, there is a scum on the surface or the water swells unusually - don't go in."
Routine monitoring will continue and good up-to-date information on recreational water quality is available on the Environment Bay of Plenty website www.envbop.govt.nz/water/water.asp
