Gisborne Hospital sustains damage in quake

Gisborne Hospital sustains damage in quake

Below is a brief statement from Jim Green, Chief Executive of Tairawhiti District Health Board.

Gisborne Hospital sustained some damage in tonight's earthquake - the building has been assessed and is safe although there is some water damage.

No patients were injured during the earthquake, all patients are safe and the hospital is open and functioning.

However people are being asked to go to their GP first if they have any minor injuries.

The hospital will be trying to discharge patients back to their homes if it safe to do so and is asking family and relatives of patients to be prepared.

A communication centre is being established and we will notify all media of contact details as soon as possible.
