Summer Scene Coming To A Letterbox Near You

The 2007/08 Summer Scene events brochure is about to come to a letterbox near you!

Sixty-five thousand copies of the brochure have been printed and are about to be distributed around Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt cities on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 December.

The free, 36-page booklet is bursting with over 100 events, exhibitions and activities set to take place in the Hutt Valley from December 2007 until early April 2008.

Included in the brochure are details on the Valley's major events including the Rimutaka Trust Family Concert featuring the Searchers at Harcourt Park on 25 January; Te Rā o te Raukura at Te Whiti Park on 3 February; The Hutt News Petone Rotary Fair on 16 February; Shapeshifter sculpture exhibition at the Lower Hutt Civic Gardens as part of the New Zealand International Arts Festival from 22 February to 16 March; the Upper Hutt Summer Carnival at Trentham Memorial Park on 22 and 23 February; and the ever-popular the Jackson Street Fiesta in Petone on 8 March.

The 2007/08 Summer Scene programme also includes plenty of events to get families active over summer.

The Push Play in the Park activities return to community parks and schools around the Valley between 7 - 25 January for two hours of fun and games for children aged 5 to 10 years.

Kev the Wandering Kiwi is back for 2008 and will be waddling along the paths and walkways of the Regional Park network with a series of family-orientated walks taking place throughout Upper and Lower Hutt from Thursday 17 January until Thursday 31 January as part of the Greater Wellington Regional Outdoors Programme.

A new initiative is the Lively Parks programme, comprising of 12 different, free or low cost exercise classes taking place in local parks across the Valley between 15 January and end of March. Activities on offer include pilates, tai chi, yoga, hand drumming, petanque, qi gong, duathlon training, orienteering, circuit classes, hapkido, and a 5km run series.

The popular Avanti Plus Lower Hutt Bike the Trail cycle ride down the Hutt River Trail returns on 24 February as does the mountain bike ride out to the Pencarrow Head during the Avanti Plus Lower Hutt Bike Pencarrow on 6 April 2008. Both are great family activities and are suitable for all ages.

For further information about the 2007/2008 Summer Scene calendar, pick up a brochure from any Council facilities in the Hutt Valley or from libraries and information centres around the region or visit www.huttcity.govt.nz/events or www.upperhuttcity.com.

The Summer Scene is a joint publication between Leisure Active - Hutt City Council and Upper Hutt City Council.
