Improved Bus Service In Western Bay
Getting around the western Bay of Plenty is about to get easier, with an improved bus service about to start
Starting on 3 December, Katikati’s Monday to Friday commuter service to Tauranga and Tauranga Hospital will also service Omokoroa. Previously, residents of Omokoroa had to access the Tauranga bus service from SH2, but the new link serves the village and takes just 30 minutes to reach the city
As well, fares along the route have also been updated. A standard adult travelling from Katikati to Tauranga, with a SmartRide card, will pay just $5.20, compared to the previous price of up to $10. For Omokoroa the same trip and ticket will cost just $2.80. Child and senior citizens concessions are also available.
The shopper services will also run over the same route on Tuesday and Thursday and give shoppers four hours in Tauranga.
Andrew von Dadelszen, chairman of Environment Bay of Plenty’s transport committee, says the changes represent a massive investment in public transport for the western Bay of Plenty.
“The changes offercommuters and shoppers a viable alternative to using the carwhen they’re heading into Tauranga city. The new service is modern, reliable and offersexcellent value for money.”
