Mayor invites senior citizens to Mayoral Day concert

Wellington’s senior citizens are the guests of honour at the annual Mayoral Day Concert in the Town Hall on Sunday 25 November, at 2pm.

This is a free event hosted by Mayor Kerry Prendergast. Concert-goers will hear favourites from the Royal New Zealand Air Force Swing Band and top local entertainers.

“It is a way for the city to give something back to our senior citizens and acknowledge their contribution to Wellington,” Mayor Prendergast says.

No tickets are needed, so just come along on the day – there’s plenty of room for everyone.
There will be free refreshments at interval and spot prizes.

Entertainment at the two-hour concert ranges from barbershop to hip-hop, old-time favourites to contemporary sounds.

Father Chris Skinner, singer-songwriter and priest at St Mary of the Angels in Wellington, will be back, along with the Wellington Male Voice Choir and organist Michael Stewart on the historic Town Hall Organ.

The concert will feature tap-dancing sensation 9-year-old Matiu Samuel and his brother and sister.
There will be a contemporary touch with hip-hop troupe Eastern Elements from Rongotai.

The Faultline Chorus, a barbershop group, will sing and dance their way through a range of songs and ballads from show tunes to contemporary favourites.

The first Mayoral Day Concert was held in 2004. The concerts aim to celebrate the city and promote community life.
