Remuneration levels set for North Shore’s elected members

Remuneration levels for North Shore’s elected council and community board members were proposed for consideration by the Remuneration Authority at the council meeting held on Friday November 9.

The Remuneration Authority is an independent body which determines local government elected members remuneration levels throughout the country. Payment of elected local government members is reviewed annually by this statutory organisation.

The Remuneration Authority sets and allocates the total amount available for payment of elected local members, while individual councils are able to recommend how this funding is divided up among its elected members.

“These decisions are made by the Remuneration Authority following consideration of the recommendations by individual councils,” Mayor Andrew Williams explained. “Therefore, the final decision is not one the council can make or reverse.”

Mr Williams said the council’s recommendations to the Remuneration Authority on the level of payment for council and community board members has now gone out to the community boards for their consideration.
