New Council slashes investment in Mt Eden-Maungawhau.

City Vision members of the Eden Albert Community Board are appalled at Mayor John Bank’s vision for Mt Eden-Maungawhau.

Mr Banks has criticised investment in one of Auckland’s crown jewels as ‘too dear’.

“Investment in Maungawhau is long overdue, and compares favourably with Mr Bank’s pet projects – the re-sanding of Eastern Bay beaches for example.” says Christopher Dempsey, City Vision member of the Board. “That he is seeking to neglect one of Auckland’s favourite icons is no surprise to anyone really.”

City Vision members remain opposed to vehicle access to the summit, which currently allows bus companies make handsome profits while spoiling the mana and beauty of Maungawhau-Mt Eden. “Greece’s Parthenon and Australia’s Uluru do not have vehicular access, so why should Maungawhau be subject to disrespect?” comments Christopher Dempsey.

“City Vision worked hard in the last six years with other caring people to secure proper investment and long over due respect and recognition for Maungawhau said Phil Chase, Board Member. “We will continue to fight for Maungawhau”.

Mr Banks and the Citizens and Ratepayers political group is urged to re-consider their view of Maungawhau, and support investment in one of Auckland City’s world class jewels.
