Lincoln Maternity Hospital Celebrates 80th Birthday
Lincoln Maternity Hospital is turning 80 and to celebrate the hospital is having an open day on Wednesday 10 October from 10am – 2pm.
Among the many guests expected to attend will be the first female and male babies born in the hospital, Mrs Agnes Bayd (nee Nimmo) and Mr Wilton Tyson, both of whom are very much looking forward to the day.
“Our children were all born there,” says Mr Tyson. “My two daughters are both coming with me to the open day, and my sister will be there too. She’s 13 years younger than me and was also born at the hospital.”
“It’s going to be a real celebration,” says Charge Midwife, Anne Atkins. “As well as Mr Tyson and Mrs Bayd, other people who were born here over the years will be joining us, as will former staff members. And former staff members who were also born here! It will be a great chance for people to catch up, reminisce, and see how much the hospital has changed since their day.”
Anne is currently writing a booklet on the history of the hospital and will be using the day as a research opportunity.
The open day
is also a chance for mothers-to-be in the area to see what
the hospital can offer them. Set in a peaceful rural
setting, Lincoln Maternity Hospital has great facilities
offering high quality midwifery care. Lincoln also has the
internationally recognised Baby Friendly Hospital
accreditation. Baby Friendly Hospitals have accomplished
high standards in implementing the World Health
Organisation’s Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. They
actively protect, promote and support exclusive
breastfeeding from birth.
