Marlborough Wine Festival To Celebrate 25 Years

New Zealand’s largest and longest running wine festival will rock to the beat of one of New Zealand’s most promising young bands, Kora, on February 9 next year.

After 25 years of celebrating the unique flavours of New Zealand’s largest wine producing region, the Marlborough Wine Festival is preparing for its most spectacular event ever. Once again the setting will be amongst the vines at the Montana’s Brancott Estate, one of the region’s most picturesque vineyards.

Kora is a five piece band, renowned for their stunning stage presence, rich vocal harmonies and unique pacific style of dub and reggae. Four of the band members are brothers, Laughton, Francis, Stuart and Brad Kora, who began playing together in the 90s. Joining up with Dan Laughton in 2002, they are well known for their music video Politician and for touring with the likes of Salmonella Dub and Fat Freddy’s Drop.

Wine Marlborough’s Marketing Manager Tom Trolove says the festival has become synonymous with New Zealand’s leading performers, with Salmonella Dub, Greg Johnson and Black Seeds all appearing in recent years. As well as Kora, next year’s festival will feature other top performers, yet to be announced.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the festival, tickets are already on sale, a month earlier than normal. Within 48 hours, 1,000 of the 8,000 $40 tickets available were sold.

When the Marlborough Wine Festival began back in 1984, the region was home to just a handful of wineries. Now 25 years later Marlborough boasts 45 cellar doors and produces well over a hundred different labels. Festival goers will get the chance to taste many of those world renowned wines, in a friendly, informative atmosphere. The wine will be complemented by an array of culinary delights from the region’s top chefs.
