Ambury farm fun fast approaching!
24 September 2007
Escape the city for a day of family fun! Come and experience life ‘down on the farm’ at Ambury Regional Park on Sunday 14 October.
Fancy riding a pony, watching sheep shearing and cow milking, riding on a tractor, feeding a lamb or tossing a gumboot? Come along and enjoy some traditional country fun at the Auckland Regional Council’s annual Ambury Farm Day.
The Farm Day brings a touch of country to the big smoke. Come and experience a real working farm up close and personal.
As well as traditional farm action such as sheep shearing, mustering and handling, cow and goat milking, feeding calves and lambs, Ambury Farm Day will also feature pony rides, wood chopping competitions, face painting and the Eagle Police helicopter. There is plenty for the whole family to do!
Live entertainment includes top Country and Western singers, a jazz band, ethnic dancing, The Fiddler and other great acts.
“Our farm day is now drawing crowds of up to 20,000 people!” says Ambury ranger Janine Nillesen.
“We really enjoy seeing people soaking up the atmosphere, learning new things, spending time with their families and enjoying this regional park,” she says.
One of 25 regional parks managed by the Auckland Regional Council, Ambury Regional Park is a working farm with a variety of cattle and sheep as well as pet lambs, goats, chickens, pigs, a horse, turkeys, rabbits, and peacocks.
Ambury Regional Park is located on Ambury Road in Mangere. To get there from the west or north, exit the airport motorway at Mangere Bridge and follow signs from Mangere Bridge Township. From the east or south, take the Coronation Rd exit off the airport motorway and follow signs from Miller Road.
Entry to Ambury Farm Day, and parking, is free of charge and gates are open from 10am to 4pm.
Don’t forget to bring hats and sunscreen if the weather’s fine. Food and drinks will be on sale and there’s plenty of space to spread a picnic rug on the grass.
Dogs are not permitted at Ambury Regional Park because of the threat to native birds and farm animals.
