Letter to Manukau
24 September 2007
Voting matters - Decide to vote
You should now have received your voting papers for our local elections. There is information for five sets of papers in
most cases. You will find candidate information supplied. It is important to remember that you only need to vote for the
candidates that you support.
You have only one chance to vote for the Mayor of Manukau City. This is the only chance to vote for Len Brown.
As Mayor I commit to deliver:
- improved financial discipline in the Council. This will deliver rates increases tied to the rate of inflation for the
next three years
- improved safety in our streets and neighbourhoods so we can build confident communities
- improved public transport so that getting around the city is easy and doesn’t cost a fortune
My 12 years in leadership roles within local government and the community have given me the experience needed for the
job ahead. My work as a lawyer has enabled me to engage with many people across the whole of the city and has equipped
me for the task of working cooperatively and effectively with Council colleagues. I am also able to work professionally
and effectively with Council staff and key stakeholders on issues that affect us all.
I have been promoting a Voting Day on 29 September. On this day we can get the voting done. It is very easy to put
things off when the voting papers arrive thinking we will “do it later”.
If that is what has happened, let’s now agree to vote on voting day, Saturday 29 September and post the papers off to
the Council next day.
Over the last 4 years I have been discussing with our people and in particular with those 35,000 households I have
personally visited across the city. As a result of those meetings I have developed a full portfolio of policies but have
focused particularly on transport, rates and safety. We have an important and exciting future ahead of us.
The leadership of Manukau City is about to change. Therefore decide to be part of Moving Manukau Forward into the
future.
Vote Len Brown for Mayor
