Bigger Bus On Opunake-New Plymouth Run

Bigger Bus On Opunake-New Plymouth Run

This week’s free bus days have struck a chord with people in Opunake, where a bigger vehicle will be used on Friday’s South Link run to and from New Plymouth.

Eighteen people had booked for the service by Tuesday. Operator Pickering Motors usually has a 19-seater on the run but will use a 37-seater this week.

The once-a-week South Link services – which also connect Opunake with Hawera and Waverley with Hawera – are free to all passengers on Thursday and Friday, while New Plymouth Citybus services will be free for adults on Friday.

The promotion ties in with Car Free Day, observed internationally on 22 September.

South Link and Citybus services are being funded by the Taranaki Regional Council for 18-month trial periods.

The Council says the response to the free bus day is pleasing but underscores the wisdom of booking for the South Link services.

To book for the Thursday Waverley-Hawera return service, call 06 278 5858 or 0800 111 323.

To book for the Thursday Opunake-Hawera return service, call 0800 221 120 or 0800 111 323.

To book for the Friday Opunake-New Plymouth return service, call 0800 221 120.
