Manukau Finalist in International Awards

Manukau City has made the finals of the 2007 International Liveable Community Awards taking place in Westminster, London in November.

Manukau is a finalist in the Whole City – population 200,000 to 750,000 section, as well as the Environmentally Sustainable Project awards with its entry, Flat Bush New Town.

The prestigious awards recognise environmental management and the creation of liveable communities with the intent of encouraging best practice, innovation and leadership in providing a vibrant, environmentally sustainable community that improves quality of life.

Manukau city is in great company; the other five finalists in its population category are:

* Lyon, France
* Malmo, Sweden
* Toledo, Ohio, USA
* Niagara, Canada; and
* Edogawa, Japan.

Director of Community Ian Maxwell is delighted that Manukau has made the finals. “These awards are highly sought after. Winning cities can leverage their status to promote tourism, business and immigration.

“It also provides a wonderful opportunity for Manukau to shine on the world stage as a vibrant, environmentally sustainable and liveable community.”
