Nominations closing for October’s elections
People with a desire to help shape their community have just over a week to get their nominations in for the local authority elections on 13 October.
Nominations close at midday on Friday 24 August, but electoral officers across the Auckland region advise people interested in standing as candidates not to leave it to the last minute.
“We would hate anyone to miss out on the opportunity to stand simply because they missed the closing date or there was a mistake on their nomination form and there wasn’t time to rectify it,” says Dale Ofsoske, electoral officer for four of the eight councils in the Auckland region.
Elections are being held for:
- mayor, councillors and community board members in your territorial authority (city or district)
- Auckland Regional Council members
- District Health Board members
- and licensing trust members in some areas.
To stand for election you must be a New Zealand citizen and be on the electoral roll.
Voting documents will be delivered by post from 21 September and voting closes at midday on Saturday 13 October.
For further information on standing as a candidate, contact your local electoral officer (using the contact details on the following page) or visit your council’s website.
