Time to Put the Freeze on Ice Cube

Why is Ice Cube coming to the Telstra Pacific Centre on 22 August this year? We don’t want him. We don’t need him. He is not welcome here.

Ice Cube brings a gangsta message to our community via his gangsta rap. This message promotes gangs, gang violence and drugs. We don’t want this in our homes. We don’t want it on our streets.

Our community is taking a stand on these issues. There is massive energy and resource dedicated to getting on top of gang activity in many parts of South Auckland. For once we have a cohesive partnership of community, government and police working together to confront this challenge and move things forward for our young people.

So let’s be clear we don’t need a gansta rappa working against the future interests of our young. It’s time to freeze out the Ice Cube.

It’s also time for Telstra-Pacific to step up and show leadership. They need to cancel this concert. That would show commitment to the community they serve.

We’re serious about this. If you are too then you need to speak up and speak out against this concert. Join those who are putting some positive encouragement into the lives of our young people so they can have hope in their future and their future lives. Community level action is focused on active sport, promoting live performance in local music and other branches of the performing arts. We believe that these kinds of initiatives help counteract the attraction of gang activity in our communities, promote self esteem and deliver encouragement to our young people to make positive choices for their lives.

Ongoing support is always needed, always welcome as is our working together.
