Have your say on peninsula parking

Have your say on peninsula parking

July 31, 2007

North Shore City Council is proposing changes to parking in Devonport to help free up parking for residents, visitors and shoppers.

“We carried out a parking survey in Devonport last year, and interviewed business owners, workers and parking users,” North Shore City’s transport planning manager, Graeme Read, says.

“We found there are currently conflicts between commuter, visitor and business parking, and we need to provide more parking for shoppers and visitors.

“As a result of the survey we have developed parking policies for Devonport to try to address these issues,” Mr Read says.

“We are proposing to increase the number of short and medium-stay parking spaces (from five minutes up to two hours), and reduce the number of long-stay spaces (from three hours to all day).

“These changes aim to balance the competing demands for parking in central Devonport and help maintain the centre’s village feel while supporting its businesses, residents and visitors.”

Residents and businesses in central Devonport will receive a consultation brochure showing details of the policies, and how they would affect parking in central Devonport.

People can fill in a feedback form and send it to the council Freepost, or give their feedback online at www.northshorecity.govt.nz

“We are keen to hear the views of Devonport’s residents, businesses and visitors, so we can put in place the best policies possible to meet everyone’s needs,” Mr Read says.
