MEDIA RELEASE
Monday 30 July 2007
Auckland Regional Alcohol & Road Safety Forum
Road Safety Stakeholders in the Auckland Region meet tomorrow to discuss issues relating to alcohol.
The forum, hosted by Alcohol Healthwatch, is being held at the Waipuna Conference Centre. It brings together interested
people from around the region to focus on the alcohol-related contribution to death and injury on the road and identify
ways to reduce this harm.
Alcohol Healthwatch Director Rebecca Williams says that repeat drink driving and legal blood alcohol levels are sure to
be among the issues raised.
Williams says the Forum is not about starting from scratch as there are many effective programmes already being
implemented in the region. She says attendees will be looking at how to build on what’s already working and identify new
initiatives that can help to save lives and make the roads safer for everyone.
Presenters include Senior Research Advisor at the NZ Police, Dr John Locker and Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology at the
University of Otago, Dr Jennie Connor.
The Auckland Regional Alcohol and Road Safety Forum will be held from 9.30am – 3.30pm at the Waipuna Conference Centre
in Auckland on Tuesday 31 July.
