Free Play Readings

Free Play Readings

Free play readings take place at the Herald Theatre on the 24th, 25th and 26th of July at 8pm.

Come along and see the nine finalist plays of the SmackBang theatre writing competition. Three plays per night for three great nights in a row.

Don't miss this chance to see some of our most impressive local talent interpreting these brand new Kiwi plays on stage for the first time, for free! Raw and vital, this is theatre at the cutting edge.

Three winning plays will be selected from these nine for development, and performed in full in October.

For the un-initiated, 'play reading' in theatre-speak means the plays are read out by actors who have only read through the play together once or twice before the public reading. Although they may act out parts of the story, it's mostly static and this is very much an early interpretation of the work, especially as these are all brand new plays.
