John Banks pleased with new flip-flop at Auckland City Council
"I am delighted that the push for openness and accountability with spending and rates has been met with agreement by my opponent. The Mayor has finally invited the media in to cover his massive blowout in council spending over Queen St. Even if my opponent's change of heart comes under pressure with only three months remaining in the council term, it is better late than never", said Mr Banks.
"Auckland deserves to know about the financial disaster involving Queen St's upgrade, Greenlane traffic improvements and other major projects. They deserve to know how their rates money has been wasted, and more importantly, what can be done to prevent this mismanagement in the future."
"Now is the time to come clean and list all projects with cost overruns at Auckland City. Here's hoping my opponent will extend his newfound commitment to openness towards other mismanaged projects around Auckland", concluded Mr Banks.
