National Crisis Management Centre activated
The National Crisis Management Centre (NCMC) was activated this morning to monitor possible flooding in Northland and weather in other parts of the northern North Island.
The Far North and Whangarei District Councils have activated their civil defence emergency operations centres (EOC).
The Northland Regional Council’s civil defence emergency management group is monitoring the situation across the region. Up-to-date regional information is available from the Council’s website www.nrc.govt.nz
The Director of the Ministry of Civil Defence, John Hamilton, said that NCMC has been activated at Mode 1 (monitoring) to be available to assist with central government support if necessary.
NCMC is monitoring weather in Auckland, Coromandel, Waikato and Bay of Plenty. Met Service is forecasting strong winds and heavy rain moving down from North of New Zealand. Northland is already receiving heavy rainfall.
