AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL
MEDIA RELEASE

27 June 2007
Read all about it

During these school holidays (30 June – 15 July), Auckland City Libraries are celebrating freaky facts, interesting books and the mysteries of the world around us at your local library.

Great prizes can be won from Scholastics in a Select 6 competition by simply borrowing six items from your local library during the school holidays. The Hot off the Press competition invites 5 – 12 year olds to use their artistic and journalistic skills to create a newspaper front page. Winners will have their award winning entries framed. Online activities include a brainteaser and submitting your own book reviews.

Events at your local library include a special evening storytime, songs and interactive fun for 5 – 12 year olds at Blockhouse Bay Community Library on the 4 July. Blockhouse Bay is also running a special activity hour on 13 July. Avondale Community Library is hosting a variety of activities including Professor Science, who will be demonstrating some explosive scientific experiments on 4 July and a You Beat the Librarian competition where 5 – 12 year olds can test their knowledge against a librarian.

For more details on events happening at Auckland City Libraries, please go to www.aucklandcitylibraries.com.
