Be Part Of Shield
Defence Urges Mayor
North Shore City’s rugby-mad mayor George Wood is encouraging residents to support North Harbour when their team defends the Ranfurly Shield against Thames Valley on Saturday, June 30.
Since becoming mayor in 1998, Mr Wood has attended every challenge Harbour made to lift the elusive log ‘o’ wood.
“It’s important to get behind our team and support the boys for this inaugural defence of the season,” he says.
“Last year’s win was a first for the union and an outstanding achievement. We need as many people there as possible cheering our team on to victory against the Swamp Foxes.
“It’s been great having the shield in our city and I’m not ready to give up my bragging rights to (Thames-Coromandel District) Mayor Philippa Bariball,” says the former Northcote lock.
“With little over a week till kick off, make sure you get a seat at your stadium and be part of the defence.”
