Manukau Water: Apology for Discoloured Water

Manukau Water: Apology for Discoloured Water

Manukau City (13 June, 2007) – Due to a major break on the Watercare bulk supply line in Otahuhu, there was localised discolouration in the Manukau Water Limited water network yesterday.

The discolouration occurred after a watermain burst in Penrose. This caused water to flow rapidly through the mains system and this increase in flow caused sediment to mix into the water, especially in Pakuranga.

“The discolouration was harmless but it was an inconvenience for some people,” noted Manukau Water Limited chief executive Raveen Jaduram.

“We are sorry this occurred and if people have continued problems because of this discolouration they can call us to see if we can remedy the situation,” he said.

The mains problem has since been rectified and tap water throughout Manukau should now be flowing clear.

What should you do if your water is discoloured in the future?

  • Phone your water company to check if there is a problem

  • Once the problem is rectified, turn on an outside water taps and run it until the water is clear.

  • If you have a filter system, avoid using it until after the water is clear.

  • DO NOT run your hot water taps. Avoid using any hot water, whenever possible, until after the water is clear.

  • DO NOT use your washing machine until after the water is clear.
