Help shape our city’s future

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL

MEDIA RELEASE

12 June 2007

Help shape our city’s future

If you have a desire to contribute to your community then Auckland City Council encourages you to stand as a candidate in October’s local body elections.

The council is holding information seminars on 13 October for people interested in standing in the elections.

Democracy Services manager Christine Watson encourages people to attend the seminars to get an insight into the life of an elected representative.

“There are great rewards for taking a leadership role in your city, but it’s important people have a realistic view of the commitment required.”

The three seminars, which will all be held at 7pm, are as follows:

• 19 June Wesley Community Centre, 740 Sandringham Rd Ext, Mt Roskill

• 26 June Council Chambers, Auckland Town Hall, 301 Queen St

• 4 July Ellerslie War Memorial Hall, 138 Main Highway, Ellerslie

Ms Watson asks those who are interested in helping to shape our city’s future to come along to one of the three seminars.

Nominations for October’s elections open on 27 July and close on 24 August.

To stand and vote in October’s elections you need to be registered on the electoral roll. You can register or check your enrolment details by:

• completing the appropriate form at any Post Shop

• telephoning 0800 ENROLNOW (0800 367 656)

• visiting the Electoral Enrolment Centre website on www.elections.org.nz
