Transit Board approves SH1 speed reduction at Paekakariki

The Transit New Zealand Board yesterday approved a permanent speed reduction for a section of SH1 at Paekakariki.

Wellington Regional Manager Graham Taylor says the Board approved that the current 80km/h limit will be permanently reduced to 70km/h along an 850m section of SH1. In conjunction with the 70km/h signs, and until the new “seagull” intersection is constructed, reduce speed warning signs will also be installed at either end of the site.

The speed reduction will cover the area on SH1 from 450m north to 400m south of Beach Road, Paekakariki. This reduction takes effect as soon as signage is installed. This is planned to happen within the next two weeks.

Mr Taylor says this speed reduction will assist traffic entering and exiting Beach Road in advance of the new “seagull” intersection being constructed. He says the intersection is due to be completed this summer.
