Makeover time for Papatoetoe Library

Media Release

Makeover time for Papatoetoe Library

Decorators move into Papatoetoe Library later this month. The renovations are part of Manukau City Council’s library maintenance programme.

The library will close from Saturday 23 June to Sunday 1 July to allow for reorganisation of shelving and laying of new carpet.

Although having to close the library for a week will cause some disruption for customers and staff, Papatoetoe Community Librarian Heather Spence is excited about the makeover.

“I’m sure our customers will enjoy the redecoration which has a retro theme. We’ve taken the best features of the building which was opened in 1979 and accentuated them, for example the beautiful exposed beams.”

“The walls will be painted alabaster white. The carpet is the most striking feature, a mix of green, red and brown shades. It’s also certified carbon neutral, so we’re being extremely environmentally friendly in our selection.

“We are also taking the opportunity to re-organise the library layout, add some new comfy furniture to create a more relaxed atmosphere and encourage visitors to stay a while.”

Customers are encouraged to use nearby City Centre, Otara and Mangere East libraries while the work is carried out.

Staff apologise for the inconvenience the refurbishment may cause to library users, but are looking forward to the completion of the renovations and sharing a new brighter Papatoetoe Library with their customers.

The new look, more user-friendly Papatoetoe library re-opens 9am on Monday 2 July.
