Redman’s Move Congratulated by Political Rival

Redman’s Move Congratulated by Political Rival.

The shock announcement of the resignation of Hamilton mayor Mike Redman in favour of the position of Chief executive of the H.CC has been praised by his rival mayoral candidate of the 2004 elections Libertarian Independent Tim Wikiriwhi.

Mr Wikiriwhi took a break from his usual critical approach to say that as a ratepayer he was grateful that Mr. Redman had made such bold move as he believes he will be a brilliant negotiator for Hamilton and keep the cost of implementing the plans of the executive branch to a minimum.

“While I have never liked Redman’s politics, I have never doubted his business acumen and people skills, nor have I doubted his integrity as a human being” said Mr Wikiriwhi.

He said despite his disagreement with Redman’s politics and personal defeat at the 2004 election, he was relieved that Mr Redman had beaten his nearest rival, Fraser high school principle and Socialist Martin Elliott, as in his view Elliot would have been a complete disaster for the city.

Mr Wikiriwhi said that he is going to enter the Mayoral race again in the forthcoming elections on the same platform as his last campaign to protect private property rights, put a stop to council spending on non essential utilities, reduce costs and free up development, abolish corrupt by laws, and reduce the size of ‘the foot print’ of the H.C.C upon the face of Hamiltonians well being.

Mr Wikiriwhi said that while he would be better prepared, that as a working man his campaign time will be severely restricted and was under no delusion that his chance of success will be similar to last election should he fail to gain financial backing from Hamiltonians keen to see his policies become a reality.

“I will fight with all my strength regardless of the odds or the paucity of my campaign funds, as I primarily seek to offer Hamilton a real choice at the election, and personal victory is less important than steeping up to the platform in defense of Ratepayers money and property.”

The move of Mr Redman to the position of chief executive was due to the resignation of 11 year veteran Tony Marryatt who will take up the role as CEO in Christchurch City Council.
