Regional Council Receives 770 Submissions
Environment Bay of Plenty has received a total of 770 submissions on its Draft Annual Plan and proposal to move its headquarters to Tauranga.
Chairman John Cronin says the submissions from throughout the Bay of Plenty will enable council to consider matters in-depth.
“It is very satisfying to see the number and quality of submissions as this shows we have informed the public of the issues and they have responded accordingly.”
The total of 770 submissions includes late submissions.
Seven hundred and forty two submissions were received about the proposed move to Tauranga. Seventy six submissions were made on other activities in the Draft Annual Plan.
Of the points raised by people in the submissions, 556 were opposed to the move and 182 were in support. Eastern Bay residents and organisations presented the bulk of submission points – 523. Rotorua residents and organisations made 20 points and 182 came from Tauranga.
Hearings to consider submissions will be held at Rotorua and Tauranga on May 21. Whakatane hearings will be held from May 22 -24 and deliberations will take place on May 31.
Following the hearings and deliberations council will adopt the Annual Plan and any amendments to the Ten Year Plan next month.
