Investment and Community Facilities funding


Latest Social Investment and Community Facilities funding in Manukau

Manukau City Council’s Community Development Committee last night allocated a total of $161,500 from its Citywide Social Investment Fund and Community Facilities Partnership Scheme.

Funding allocations:

Citywide Social Investment Fund

Funding is allocated from the Citywide Social Investment Fund to groups whose projects support youth development and groups working with disadvantaged communities. Funding was allocated to:

$40,000 to Counties Manukau Sport to support the appointment of active schools facilitators in primary schools and for the Sports Club Accreditation Programme (SCAP) for sports clubs in Manukau
$39,500 to Project K Manukau towards their youth wilderness adventure and 10 day community challenge and mentoring programme
$17,000 to the Physically Handicapped and Able Bodied Association (PHAB) to assist with costs to set up two additional leadership groups in Counties Manukau.
$2000 to Hearing Dogs for People towards petrol costs for volunteers who promote awareness of this service at expos and through speaking engagements.

 Community Facilities Partnership Scheme              

Community Facilities Partnership Scheme funding supports the development of multi-use community facilities. The scheme is intended to support community groups to obtain grants from other funding organisations. To be eligible, the proposed project must be located on a Manukau City Council reserve. Funding allocated was:

$25,000 to Koru Pakuranga Lawn Tennis Club Inc for lighting
$38,000 to the Eastgate Community Trust towards their day care facility.

Chair of the Community Development Committee Councillor John Walker says, “The Community Development Committee is pleased to provide funding and support to these community groups.

“Whether they are working to improve the skills and confidence of the city’s youth or striving to provide great community facilities, they all make Manukau a more pleasant place to live.  These funds will make a real difference to communities across Manukau.”

The funding was awarded from the Citywide Social Investment Fund and Community Facilities Partnership Scheme agreed by council as part of the 2006/07 Annual Plan.
