Council considers revised Orewa Community plan

Council considers revised Orewa Community Masterplan

A revised plan to manage growth in Orewa will be presented to Council on Tuesday, 8 May, highlighting issues around population growth, height of buildings within and outside the town centre and changes to Orewa Beach Holiday Park.

“It is clear in what we are presenting that the Council has listened to the community” said Director District Strategy and Planning, Warren Maclennan. “The height of buildings initially suggested in the consultation draft of the Community Masterplan has been reduced, there is a smaller CBD area and there is no change to the camping ground.”

The Community Masterplan has responded to the input of both agencies and individuals including the Auckland Regional Council, Residents Associations, business people, Destination Orewa Beach, the Rodney Economic Development Trust and unaffiliated local residents.

The Community Masterplan now incorporates some of the suggestions received from the public exhibition process, feedback from groups and individuals, staff and Councillor workshops and analysis of the current District Plan. The Community Masterplan now proposes restrictions on building height to 30 metres in the town centre (consistent with the current provisions of the District Plan policies) but increases the minimum site size for a 30m building to almost double what is allowed in the current District Plan.

Should the Orewa Community Masterplan be accepted by Council, a proposed 'variation' to the District Plan will begin, which offers another opportunity for the public to have their say through a statutory consultation process.
