Beachlands-Maraetai Wastewater Plant
Upgrade
Manukau City (24 April, 2007) – A contract
to upgrade Manukau Water Limited’s Beachlands-Maraetai
wastewater treatment plant has been awarded to Fulton Hogan
Limited.
Martin Smith, General Manager of Infrastructure for Manukau Water Limited, said awarding the contract will allow the upgrade to begin immediately, with completion expected in early 2008.
“We are pleased Fulton Hogan are on board for this project and we are now proceeding with improving this important infrastructure facility,” Mr Smith said.
The upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant will see its capacity increase to provide domestic sewerage services for 10,000 residents in Beachlands-Maraetai, compared with the 5,500 people currently served by the facility. The upgrade will also introduce new processes to separate inorganic matter and grit at the plant, improve phosphate removal and upgrade the U.V disinfection processes.
“These improvements will provide environmental benefits as well as allowing for growth in the area,” Mr Smith said.
Once the upgrade is completed the facility will have a value of around $13 million.
“This represents a significant investment in infrastructure for the future of the community,” Mr Smith said.
