Creating the city you want

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL

MEDIA RELEASE

17 April 2007

Creating the city you want

Auckland is a great city with many attributes that we can all be proud of. However, Auckland City Council believes we can be even better.

The council’s plans for making our city even better are contained in its Draft Annual Plan 2007/2008. The plan makes proposals that will help shape Auckland in years to come, as well as setting a budget that will directly affect your rates.

The plan and its summary version both contain feedback forms, so your voice can be heard when decisions are made to help our city achieve its potential.

Mayor Dick Hubbard urges Aucklanders to take part. “We want to know what you think about our ideasto make New Zealand’s largest city our sharpest and smartest.”

Last year, public input helped the council develop its long-term vision, and prioritise projects for the next 10 years so the council could help make its vision a reality.

During the past 12 months, much has been achieved with your feedback influencing the decisions the council makes.

“The council has focused on working with you to make our city even more appealing to both residents and visitors,” says the mayor.

Public consultation on the plan runs from this Friday to Monday, 21 May. The plan will be finalised in June after public feedback has been taken into account.

People can get a summary of the plan and a feedback form from:

• Auckland City Council libraries and service centres

• by phoning (09) 379 2020

• the 22 April edition of City Scene

Auckland City Council representatives will be in shopping malls around the city and at community markets during the one-month consultation period.
