Time to thank Manukau’s volunteers

Every year Manukau City Council’s community boards host receptions throughout the city to recognise the contributions of Manukau’s hardworking volunteers.

Last year we presented certificates of appreciation to more than 900 volunteers. Because of this overwhelming response we’ve decided to hold our volunteer recognition events over two years.

This year it’s the turn of Botany, Howick, Mangere and Otara to say thanks to all those who give their time and energy to their community. Recognition events will take place in the third week of June in these communities.

Volunteer recognition events will be held in Clevedon, Papatoetoe, Pakuranga and Manurewa communities next year.

Manukau’s Mayor Sir Barry Curtis says, “Each year thousands of dedicated individuals make a huge contribution to Manukau’s clubs and organisations and the wellbeing of people in our City. Most of these groups would fold without this commitment and it is only fitting that we thank our volunteers for the marvellous work they do.”

Council would like to hear from members of the public about volunteers who are making a difference in the Botany, Howick, Mangere and Otara communities and deserve recognition for their work.

Nomination forms are available from Manukau Libraries, Citizens Advice Bureaux, Howick Information Service, leisure and arts centres, council’s Customer Advice Centre, or can be downloaded from www.manukau.govt.nz . The closing date for nominations is Friday 11 May.
