Regional Petrol Tax Needed For Essential Transport Projects
Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis says a regional petrol tax is the obvious way forward for Auckland's transport projects now that Transit has rejected tolling for the Western Ring Route.
"I believe a regional petrol tax is a better alternative to tolls. It is fairer because everyone contributes for a regional road, rather than just some people.
Sir Barry says completing the region's motorway network, including finishing the ring route as fast as possible, is essential.
"We've got to get on with a number of roading projects that are desperately needed in the Auckland region. A regional petrol tax looks like the fairest and easiest way to get some action," Sir Barry says.
