Inaugural SeePort Week Ends
Ports of Auckland’s inaugural SeePort Week concluded on Saturday 31 March, attracting more than 1,800 people, young and old, from local communities, keen for a closer look at the busy Auckland seaport.
The port company offered free guided tours by bus and ferry every day of the week, rain or shine, with tours booking out quickly early in the week.
“These tours enabled our neighbours and others to get a close-up view of our operations, learn more about what we do here and hopefully gain a better appreciation for the port,” said Ports of Auckland Chief Operating Officer Jens Madsen.
Heritage tours by ferry and on foot that focused on the port and the city’s shared history were also popular among SeePort guests.
Special tug dance displays on the SeePort boat tours and the chance to get up close with high-tech machinery on the SeePort bus tours were a few of the highlights for SeePort guests.
“I felt like I was in Jurassic Park with the
cranes and straddles as dinosaurs” said one guest on a
SeePort bus tour.
SeePort Week’s success will now see
it as an annual event on the Ports of Auckland calendar with
next year being bigger and
better!
