NoMoreRates welcomes additional public meetings
of Independent Inquiry into Rates.
The Independent Inquiry into rates has added two further public meetings as part of its consultation programme.
Welcoming this move today David Thornton, organiser of the NoMoreRates campaign, said
“As a result of pressure from this campaign I am delighted that the Inquiry team has added a second meeting for the Auckland region. The meeting will be on 18th April at the North Shore Events centre.
“We emailed the Inquiry on 1st March with our concerns and specifically asked for a public meeting on the North Shore.
“NoMoreRates supporters from Southland have also been pressurising the Inquiry and a public meeting has now been arranged at the Ascot Park Hotel on Monday 14th May.
“I urge all ratepayers to take these extra opportunities to hear what the Inquiry is all about and to question the Inquiry team and to make submissions.
“Poor advertising by the Inquiry team led to a small attendance of only 47 people at the first Auckland meeting in February. It was indicated to me that advertising was limited due to budget constraints.”
