Mark Ford will chair the ARTA

Transport chief appointed
20
March, 2007
Mark Ford will chair the Auckland Regional
Transport Authority.
Mr Ford, of Auckland, replaces Wellington-based Brian Roche, who was appointed by the Government to oversee ARTA’s establishment in 2004.
Auckland Regional Council chairman Michael Lee, who chaired the ARTA appointments panel, said Mr Ford’s experience in leading large public utilities and overseeing major infrastructural projects were significant factors in his selection.
Mr Lee said: “His appointment comes at a critical time for passenger transport, and in the life of the transport authority. The region is rebuilding its network and faces decisions which will heavily influence the social and economic landscape of Auckland.”
Mr Ford is the Chief Executive of Watercare Services Ltd.
The ARTA appointments panel has 15 members, comprising the chairman, seven regional councillors and the mayors of the region’s seven local councils. Terms and conditions of Mr Ford’s chairmanship will be confirmed by the Auckland Regional Council on 26 March. His chairmanship will commence in April.
Mr Lee thanked Brian Roche for his exemplary service to the Auckland region and for his leadership of the transport authority, especially in spearheading the Auckland rail electrification project which is believed to be on the verge of gaining government approval.
