Transit says traffic flowing
at new Basin traffic signals
Transit New Zealand advises the new traffic signals at Adelaide Road and Rugby Street (the Basin Reserve) are working well allowing traffic to flow better than before.
Transit project manager Jonnette Adams says motorists are now able to use both lanes at the Mt Victoria Tunnel intersection.
Ms Adams says previous advice to keep in the right-hand lane at this intersection has changed since the new signals at Adelaide Road and Rugby Street became operational on Saturday morning.
“Northbound motorists are now free to use both lanes at the Mt Victoria Tunnel exit on Rugby/Dufferin Streets as these are dedicated lanes to take traffic through to the Bypass, or city, if they choose.”
The new signals provide vastly improved pedestrian and cyclist safety while also improving access into and out of Newtown.
“Motorists coming into town from Adelaide Road will notice the changes in particular as they now have dedicated time at the traffic signals to merge into the Basin Reserve traffic rather than having to find a gap.”
Ms Adams says Transit will continue to monitor this intersection to ensure it operates effectively and will adjust where necessary.
