Minister of Transport officially opens Panmure
Interchange
Minister of Transport, Annette King will officially open the new Panmure train, bus and park and ride interchange today in Auckland.
The interchange is a partnership project between the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA), Auckland City Council and the Auckland Regional Transport Network Limited (ARTNL).
ARTA’s Chief Executive, Fergus Gammie, says “The new interchange is focused on increasing transport choices for commuters in the Panmure and Mt Wellington area.
Mr Gammie said the interchange project had three distinct phases of development.
“Train services began running through the new station in December last year, with bus services which are currently running through the area, rerouted to run through the new interchange this week. The new park-and-ride facility, directly adjacent to the bus and train services, opened in December.
“The third phase of the project will start later this year and will see more significant timetable and route variations further increasing the connectivity of rail and bus services. ARTA is also planning to provide two new local connector network bus routes with timed connections to the MAXX train network,” says Mr Gammie.
Mayor of Auckland City, Dick Hubbard who will open the interchange with the Minister says, “We are really pleased to open this brand new transport hub near the heart of Panmure. Public transport here is not an afterthought; it is an integral part of the future of this lively, growing community.
“The interchange provides more Aucklanders
with more travel choices. We look forward to the benefits
this council’s investment in infrastructure to support
rail, such as the popular park-and-ride and bus interchange,
will create,” says Mr Hubbard.
“Panmure’s transport
hub will cater for planned development and facilitate more
opportunities. It is a step towards furnishing the Tamaki
Edge area with convenient and reliable public transport
services,” says Mr Hubbard.
