Big Kids' Kite Day To Help Mercy Hospice Auckland
Big Kids' Kite Day To Help Mercy Hospice Auckland
The second annual Big Kids' Kite Day, organised by
House of Travel Parnell and Orbit Corporate Travel Auckland,
is a special family day to raise much-needed funds for Mercy
Hospice Auckland.
The event will be held at Bastion Point, Orakei on Sunday March 4, from 11am to 4pm (with a rain date of March 11). Kids and adults alike will love the sight of hundreds of colourful kites flying in the breeze, including 12 enormous, intricately shaped kites, one of which will drop a lolly scramble down on the crowds. There will be a range of kites available to purchase on the day from as little as $7.00 as well as a sausage sizzle and raffles with prizes such as hotel accommodation, spa treatments and a flight simulation from Mike Pero Mortgages.
Parking will be available on the day at the Orakei Marae at the Kupe St entrance, off Kepa Rd. Entry to the event is free. Last year's Big Kids Kite Day was a huge success, and House of Travel and Orbit hope to raise even more this year.
Adam Berry, director of House of Travel Auckland City, says the event is a wonderful opportunity to have a fun family day out, while helping your community at the same time.
"While the Government contributes some funding through the District Health Boards, the remainder is raised from the community through fundraising activities. The need for funds is vital so that care can remain free for the terminally ill and their families."
In 2005 House of Travel formed a partnership with Hospice New Zealand which has seen each of its 90 outlets throughout the country team up with their local hospice. The partnership involves 1,100 staff having a days paid leave to work in or for their local hospice, various scholarships and funded trips to reward hospice volunteers and assisting to raise funds.
The House of Travel Group has forecasted turnover in of $750m for 2007, it has 90 retail outlets (with specialist corporate, adventure and leisure and group travel outlets) throughout New Zealand, its own award winning aggregated booking website www.houseoftravel.co.nz and two wholesale companies (both inbound and outbound). It employs in excess of 1,100 people and is privately owned (by New Zealander Chris Paulsen) and operated since it was established in 1987.
