Eden Park gains resource consent 2011

Eden Park gains resource consent 2011

Rugby World Cup finals venue a step closer

Eden Park Chief Executive John Alexander today welcomed Auckland City Council’s granting of resource consent for the redevelopment of Eden Park.

“We’re delighted that consent has been granted and to get such a prompt decision,” Mr Alexander said.

“This is a great start to the year and an important hurdle to get over.

“Today’s positive decision reflects the extent to which we have modified our design plans to respond to community feedback.”

Mr Alexander said Eden Park’s proposal to complete the stadium bowl and lower the height of the new stands had been well received by many submitters, and was reflected in the conditions of the consent.

Mr Alexander said his initial reaction to the conditions attached to the resource consent had been positive. “Over the next few days we will review the conditions in detail, and will reserve further comment until the closure of the statutory appeal period.”

“Eden Park has always been committed to seeking community input into its plans, and going through a full public process. The feedback from the community during our consultation workshops and the hearings themselves has been very constructive and useful.”

Organisations that appeared at the hearing in support of Eden Park’s resource consent application included the Auckland Regional Transport Authority, Auckland Regional Council, NZ Police, Eden Park Residents’Association, Albert-Eden Ratepayers & Residents Association and Auckland City Ratepayers & Residents Association.

Of the 502 written submissions received, 302 were in favour of the redevelopment and 180 opposed.
