Community ‘champion’ work recognised

Local volunteer John Smith’s significant contribution to the Puhunui stream environment has been recognised by Manurewa Community Board and Manukau Parks. John has been responsible for improvements to the stream environment and the preparation of 500 metres of walkway in the surrounding area.

The Manurewa Community Board wanted to acknowledge John’s efforts by presenting the award. Park Manager, Digby Whyte said “John is one of our champion volunteers who are making a difference to the Puhunui stream environment with plantings and track development”.

John has worked tirelessly to beautify Manukau City over many years and has been responsible for coordinating the planting of some 40,000 plants along the Puhunui stream.

A ceremony took place yesterday, 5 December, at Aorovista Reserve, where John was presented with the Certificate of Appreciation.
