Changes to right hand turn restriction, Great S Rd

AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL

MEDIA ADVISORY

6 December 2006

Changes to right hand turn restriction on Great South Road

The temporary median restricting traffic from turning right on Great South Road, between Green Lane West and Campbell Road, has been removed.

The median was installed in July this year to ensure the safety of all road users as part of Auckland City’s traffic management plan while work on Project Greenlane was carried out.

Auckland City’s transport programme manager, Tony Kay says measures such as the median will not be necessary until January 2007, as other localised traffic controls are in place over the festive season, keeping the area safe for all road users.

“We have decided to remove the median over the holiday period, allowing traffic to turn right into properties and side roads from Great South Road. Our priority is to minimise disruption for the community and businesses while getting the work completed as safely and quickly as possible.”

The council regularly reviews the traffic management plan for Project Greenlane. Alternative traffic management plans will be considered for the completion of work. If the median is necessary for future work, residents, businesses and motorists will be notified before it is reinstated.

Project Greenlane is a vital part of Auckland City’s plan to give Aucklanders more sustainable travel choices.
