NEW EXHIBITION
Fantasy of Flame
An exhibition of functional and sculptural pottery and ceramics works by artists from Manurewa Potters Club who have
explored unique clay-building and surface application techniques.
Works are for sale and will make wonderful gifts for Christmas!

EXHIBITIONS
MSVA Student Exhibition
Don’t miss this exhibition by an exciting group of predominantly local Pasifika and Māori students studying to complete
the Bachelor of Visual Arts programme through Manukau School of Visual Arts in Otara.
These young emerging artists explore ideas about cultural identity, art making and popular culture, through painting,
print, photography and moving image (experimental film and documentary making)
For the contributing artists Danielle Meredith, Ofa Mafi, Mele Penitani, Rebakah Rangiwai, Jane-Anne Akamoeau, Christine
Samuels and others, this exhibition marks their evolving art practice, and celebrates their hard work and achievements.
As many of the artworks are for sale the exhibition provides an excellent opportunity to invest in and support young
emerging local artists.
Their work is thoroughly engaging, of high quality and often based on in-depth academic research. The students are
mostly Manukau-city based and are on the verge of exciting professional careers as visual artists.

Yazma Smith – New Work
This new body of work from Manukau born and raised artist Yazma Smith explores her migration from urban Manukau to the
rural Far North and the co-existence of being at home in two very different spaces.
Nga Puhi artist Smith has developed a successful practice through her investigations of Maori iconography, hegemonic
structures and New Zealand historical references. Her work is often composed of, but not limited to, a strongly symbolic
palette of red, black and white.
Many of the works are for sale.

9th Manukau Vessel & Sculpture Exhibition
A collection of outstanding works by artists who have submitted works for this year’s Vessel & Sculpture Awards.
The Manukau Vessel and Sculpture Exhibition showcases outstanding vessel and sculpture works by artists from throughout
New Zealand. Over 90 works in a variety of abstract and realistic styles were received for the 2006 awards.
This year’s guest selector and featured artist, Filipe Tohi, has made a discerning selection of pieces to be exhibited,
which will feature winning and highly-commended works. The winning work this year is ‘The Wing and Wave’ (carried us
here) by Wellington master sculptor Johnny Turner.

CHRISTMAS EVENT AT NATHAN HOMESTEAD
Christmas Cracker!
Nathan Homestead presents a lively extravaganza involving Christmas-themed storytelling from our talented drama and
dance students and an entertaining array of festive performances.
Nathan Homestead Performing Arts will be performing a couple of short plays, including ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’
(Junior class 5 – 8 years) and a play featuring different fairy-tale characters (combined drama classes). There will be
a drama improvisation (Intermediate class 9 – 13 years) and contemporary dance pieces with a Christmas theme.
There will also be special guests, salsa dance performances, heart-warming music and a chance for everyone to celebrate
the cherished season with a spectacular Christmas sing-a-long.
Christmas Cracker! will be held in Nathan Homestead’s outdoor lawn, surrounded by the exquisite gardens. (In the event
of wet weather the event will be cancelled.)

Performing Arts Term 4 Workshops
Homestead Hip Hop (7 years and over) with Katie Muller
In this intensive hip hop class our experienced tutor will help you master complicated routines. You’ll advance your
dancing skills and be glad you took up the challenge! Performance will take place at 11.30am. Parents and caregivers
welcome.
