Slip restricts access to the top of
Colonial Knob
One of the access tracks to the top of Colonial Knob in Porirua has become blocked by a slip following recent heavy rain.
The Colonial Knob Walkway has been closed between the Porirua Scenic Reserve junction/Farm Track junction down to where the farm road meets the track coming up from the top reservoir.
The decision to temporarily close the track to the public was made between the Department of Conservation and the landowner in the interests of public safety as the slip is still active.
“It will be cleared in the near future, but it needs some dry weather to let it settle down to enable the use of heavy machinery to reinstate the track,” DOC visitor assets programme manager Wayne Boness said.
People can still access a round trip by either walking up through Colonial Knob Scenic Reserve and exiting via Porirua Scenic Reserve at Camp Elsdon (Porirua City Council) or vice versa.
The section of track affected by the slip is expected to remain closed until the end of this month, dependent on suitable weather conditions.
