Choose the Right & Let the Consequences Follow
Choose the right and let the consequences follow, is the message Manukau City Councillor, Su’a William Sio, gave in his
remarks to the De La Salle College students in their last school assembly for 2006 held today.
Councillor Sio said if the students forget everything else he spoke about, I hope they don’t forget this simple message,
that when you make good choices in your life, you’ll be happy, but if you make bad choices you will suffer the
consequences.
“There are so many choices you are expected to make in your life today. Some choices will be easy, other choices will be
complicated. As long as you are making the right choices and your conscience will tell you its right, then have the
courage to act on it and follow through. Your friends might make fun of your choices but they’ll respect you if you have
the courage to stand up for what you believe is right. But if your friends do ridicule you for standing up for what’s
right, then you have to ask if they really are your friends.”
Councillor Sio pointed to all 800 plus students sitting on the floor of the school’s gymnasium and said they were all
future leaders.
“We all get old and die or move on with our lives, and one of you will be asked to take over from me, another to take
over from your school principal, others will need to take over as board of trustees, others will need to step up and
lead your families.”
“Now is the time to prepare yourself to take over these roles. You must make wise choices now if you are to release the
full leadership potential in each of you.”
