Transport Action Group Has Surprise News For Porirua Commuters
7.00 am, Tuesday, October 31
The Transport Action Group will be launching two surprise initiatives tomorrow morning in its campaign to improve rail services in the Wellington Region.
The group, led by Councillor Alan Tristram and Lyndy McIntyre, will also get more signatures for their petition to the Great Wellington Regional Council (GWRC).
The ‘Band of Seven’ TAG group will assemble at the Porirua Station at 6.30am after travelling there by public transport.
The Petition has already attracted one thousand signatures.
‘Almost no-one is refusing to sign. Everybody’s demanding changes to improve this pathetic service -- now!’ says Cr Tristram.
The Petition calls on the Regional Council to find the funding to upgrade rail services – or to get extra Government funding.
It also calls on the GWRC reject options like removing or replacing seats to increase capacity.
And it welcomes the 8.6 per cent increase in passenger volumes, which reduces road congestion and helps fight global warming.
