Former Ambulance Officer Arrested On Sex Charges

18 October 2006

A former Auckland ambulance officer has been arrested following complaints from three women patients alleging that they were sexually assaulted while in his care.

The 33-year-old man appears in the Dunedin District Court today. He faces one charge of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, one charge of attempted sexual violation by unlawful connection, and four charges of indecent assault.

Detective Sergeant Tim Leitch, Wellington CIB, said the alleged offending took place in the Auckland area on three separate occasions in late 1999 and early 2000 while female patients were being transported by ambulance to hospital.

The police investigation started in mid 2004 after one of the women made a complaint.

Detective Sergeant Leitch says the man no longer works as an ambulance officer.
